- Report any concerns of improper behavior by
any wrestler or coach immediately to a coach, official or parent.
Coaches
The athlete/coach
relationship is a privileged one. Coaches play a critical role in the personal
as well as athletic development of their athletes. They must understand and
respect the inherent power imbalance that exists in this relationship and must
be extremely careful not to abuse it. Coaches must also recognize that they are
conduits through which the values and goals of a sport organization are channeled.
Thus how an athlete regards his/her sport is often dependent on the behavior of
the coach. The following Code of Conduct has been developed to aid coaches in
achieving a level of behavior which will allow them to assist their athletes in
becoming well-rounded, self confident and productive human beings.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Treat everyone
fairly within the context of the sport, regardless of gender, place of
origin, race, color, religion, athletic potential, political belief,
economic status, marital status, age or any other conditions.
- Direct
comments or criticism at the performance rather than the athlete. Provide
feedback to athletes and other participants in a caring manner that is
sensitive to their needs.

display high personal standards and project a favorable image of the sport
of wrestling and of coaching.

the activity being undertaken is suitable for the age, experience, ability
and fitness level of the athletes and educate athletes as to their

and performance standards. Provide athletes with information necessary to be
involved in the decisions that affect them.

child's development.

as to allow academic success.

promises and commitments, both verbal and written.

any relationship established as a coach to further personal, political or
business interests at the expense of the best interests of their athletes or

Parents, Family and Fans
Every Wrestler, Parent, family
member and fan should abide by the following code of conduct. There should never
be negative comments or gestures made toward another person relating to the
sport before, during or after a sporting event. You should respect all
competitors, officials and fans at all times. Remember, good sportsmanship is a
priority (and is contagious!). Winning is secondary. Although everyone loves a
winner, you, your team and family are more of a winner by being a good
sportsman. We are a class school and community and we want to keep it that way.
Every wrestler should be patted
on the back because they are a winner for trying. Every wrestler that gets on
the mat is a champion. The athletes work hard to prepare and put enough pressure
on themselves to win. If their hands are not raised at the end of a match, it's
time to go back to the drawing board and use that loss as a fresh stimulus to
work that much harder and smarter. We commend every person for trying. When we
win, we also need to remember how it felt to be the loser, and respect the
losing wrestler and their family. We appreciate you representing and
supporting Chatfield Jr Wrestling and Community with the utmost of respect.
Any disagreement with an
official, a coach, a tournament director or any problem related to another
wrestler or parent should be handled in a respectful and tactful manor (even if
the same was not shown to you by them) We strive to be excellent examples
for our children, they are watching...
Thank you again for your
support.
