Chatfield Junior Wrestling
I had some difficulty finding pictures for some of these techniques... I used some from martial arts sites, but the techniques are the same (in fact, most of the wrestling techniques existed long before the martial arts were ever conceived!)
| Snap down-spin can be found on the Snap Down page. basically, you just quickly spin behind your opponent after snapping his head to the mat. | All of the snap down techniques can also be used in any situation which finds your opponent on his knees in front of you. A good example of such a situation would be if he shoots on you and you sprawl. |
| The Cow Catcher can quickly end a match! After snapping your opponent down, reach one arm over and around his head and grab his chin (like a half nelson, but he is still on his knees) your other hand snakes under his arm, and drives forcefully towards his hip as you turn him to his back! | |
| The 1/4 Nelson is applied after snapping your opponent down
by snaking your arm under his arm on the same side and placing the snaking
hand on top of your other hand which is placed directly on top of his head
and provides greater strength as you force his head under
causing him to turn to his back. Be sure to keep your chest on his
chest.

| The Long Sit-out escape is effective in creating distance between you and your opponent. It is also good set-up leading into other escapes in the event that it fails by itself. From the Referee's position, you slightly lift your outside leg and quickly "kick" your inside leg as far out in front as you can. This should leave you on your side with your opponent attempting to follow. You circle the same arm as the inside leg you just kicked out to block your opponent from following as you "scissor" your legs to get back to a good base/stance. If he manages to follow and reach an arm over, then use that arm as a lever and circle under it. |

| The outside or Cross-face Cradle can be a very effective pinning combo. Your opponent should be 'broken down," and you reach across his face forcefully to grab his outside arm just above the elbow. You may need to use your other hand to push his elbow within reach or prevent him from moving it out of the way. Pull his arm in tight while lifting his face with your elbow. Your other hand blocks behind his outside knee. You may need to place the palm under the knee flat on the mat to keep that leg from moving while you drive his head around to that knee. Once your hands are close enough, grab the wrist of the arm doing the cross-face (keeping one arm under the knee, and the other around the head and holding the elbow tightly across his chest). DO NOT let the elbow go! Now move your hips in next to his as you turn him to his back. Lift his hips with your knee if he is fighting too hard. | ![]() |
| Inside or Bow and Arrow Cradle- To start, obtain half nelson on opponent. Place your hand on inside of his near leg. Place your head in his ribs and push. As you do, try to join both of your hands. As soon as this is done, your head should pop up from the "u" formed by their body. Make sure your hands are secured; now keep pushing forward with your toes until your forehead (always keep your head up) is touching and resting on the mat. Squeeze until pin. | ![]() |
